Flagship Projects in Mozambique
Chitima Coal Fire Power Plant and Mine, Mozambique
WKC Group acted as the specialist air quality and noise impact assessment consultants for the development of a thermal coal and mining project in Mozambique that is due to deliver up to 600MW of power. WKC formed part of a team of Mozambican Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) consultants that delivered the ESIA in accordance with the World Bank/IFC General Environmental Health and Safety Guidelines (EHS). The Thermal Coal Project, will consist of 2 x 300MW power plants, powered by coal extracted from a single open cast coal mine at 2.5 – 2.6 Mtpa run-of-mine volumes for over 25 years. WKC were the lead air quality consultant in Mozambique for the Zambeze Project. WKC Group also acted as the noise impact assessment consultant in Mozambique for this project.
Zambeze Coal Mine Project
Zambeze coal project is based on a high volume open cut mine that will produce significant amount of high quality coking and thermal coal. Two products will be produced by the mine, namely hard coking coal (4.3 Mt per year) and export thermal coal (1.8 Mt per year). WKC were the lead noise impact assessment consultant in Mozambique for the Zambeze Project. WKC Group also acted as the air quality impact assessment consultant in Mozambique for this project.
